π‘οΈ
Your Device, Your Data
Only you can access your clipboard history with Touch ID/Face ID.
1. What Data Does ClipVault Access?
ClipVault is a clipboard manager, so it needs to access your clipboard to function. Here's exactly what happens:
- Clipboard Content: ClipVault monitors your system clipboard to save text, links, and images you copy.
- Local Storage: All clipboard history is stored locally on your Mac using CoreData and macOS Keychain.
- Sensitive Data Detection: Passwords and sensitive information are automatically detected and encrypted using AES-256 encryption via macOS Keychain.
- Touch ID/Face ID: Used exclusively for authenticating access to sensitive clipboard items. Biometric data never leaves your device.
2. What We DON'T Do
This is what makes ClipVault different from other clipboard managers:
- β No Cloud Sync: We don't sync your clipboard to any server, ever.
- β No Analytics: We don't track what you copy, when you copy it, or how you use the app.
- β No Telemetry: We don't send usage data, crash reports, or any other telemetry.
- β No Third-Party Services: We don't use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
- β No Network Access: ClipVault doesn't connect to the internet at all. You can verify this with network monitoring tools.
- β No Account Required: No registration, no email, no login. Just download and use.
- β No Data Sharing: Since we don't collect any data, there's nothing to share with anyone.
3. How Your Data is Protected
ClipVault uses multiple layers of security to protect your clipboard data:
1
Local-Only Storage
All clipboard items are stored in a local CoreData database on your Mac. This data never leaves your device.
2
Automatic Sensitive Data Detection
ClipVault automatically detects passwords, credit cards, and other sensitive information from password managers and secure fields.
3
Keychain Encryption (AES-256)
Sensitive clipboard items are encrypted using macOS Keychain with military-grade AES-256 encryption. Only accessible with Touch ID/Face ID.
4
Biometric Authentication
Touch ID or Face ID is required to view or copy sensitive items. No biometric data is stored or accessed by ClipVault.
5
Auto-Clear Clipboard
After copying sensitive data, your clipboard is automatically cleared after 10 seconds to prevent accidental exposure.
6
Sandboxed Application
ClipVault runs in a macOS sandbox with minimal permissions. It can only access clipboard data and local storage.
4. Data Retention
You have complete control over your clipboard history:
- Automatic Cleanup: You can set a history limit (10, 25, or 50 items). Older items are automatically removed.
- Manual Deletion: Clear all history anytime with one click. This permanently deletes all clipboard items from CoreData and all encrypted data from Keychain.
- Uninstallation: If you uninstall ClipVault, all clipboard history is removed with the app. No traces left behind.
- No Backups: Clipboard data is marked as excluded from Time Machine and iCloud backups for maximum privacy.
5. macOS Permissions
ClipVault requires the following macOS permissions to function:
- Accessibility Access: Required to enable the global hotkey (ββ§V) to show/hide the app from anywhere.
- Clipboard Access: Required to monitor and save clipboard content (this is the core functionality).
These permissions are used exclusively for clipboard management. We don't access any other system data, files, or applications.
6. Open Source & Transparency
We believe privacy requires transparency:
- π Open Source Code: ClipVault's source code is available for inspection. You can verify exactly what the app does.
- π No Obfuscation: The code is clear and documented. No hidden functionality.
- π‘οΈ Security Audits: We welcome security researchers to audit the codebase.
- π No DRM: No digital rights management or anti-tampering measures. Your software, your control.
7. Third-Party Services
ClipVault uses ZERO third-party services.
- No analytics providers (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.)
- No crash reporting services (Sentry, Crashlytics, etc.)
- No advertising networks
- No cloud storage providers
- No authentication services
The only external connection is this website (clipvault.devbyone.com), which is a static site hosted on Netlify. The website does not use cookies or tracking.
8. Children's Privacy
ClipVault does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Since the app operates entirely offline with no data collection, there is no privacy risk for users of any age.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
If we make any changes to this privacy policy, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
- Post the new policy on this website
- Include a changelog in the app's release notes
